Anthem’s Fate Reportedly Going To Be Decided This Week

Anthem was released all the way back in 2019, which now feels like a life time ago. With the games terrible reception and an almost nonexistent player base; you may have thought that Bioware and EA had already given up on Anthem. Bioware has, however, reportedly been working on a major update for the game since mid 2020, in the hopes of revitalizing it in the vein of No Man’s sky’s Next update.
Today, It is being reported, in an article by Bloomberg, that EA executives will be holding a meeting this week to determine if the company should increase the size of the team working on the project or put an end to its development all together. There are allegedly 30 people currently working on the update. According to people close to the development, it is believed that number would need to triple in order to create the studios vision for the game.
Anthem is a live service game in the style of Destiny, but bland loot, a lack of rewarding progression, and a disappointing endgame, the game quickly fell into obscurity. In order to try and fix some of the game issues, Bioware decided to cancel all of the game’s planned updates to focus on fixing the content that was already available. This, however, just gave players less to look forward to and caused fewer and fewer to comeback to the game.
Anthem still has a chance of being one of gaming’s best comeback stories, but with Bioware’s current track record and EA’s love of canceling games, the deck is definitely stacked against it. Only time will tell what will become of Anthem, but hopefully this whole experience will show Bioware what some of its problems are and they can get back to creating some of the best games in the business.
