Elden Ring Finally Gets Shown off

To cap off Geoff Keighley’s Summer Games Fest Kickoff Show, we got our first, and a rather large look, at FromSoftware’s upcoming game Elden Ring.

The trailer shows a large open world that the player will traverse using a “spirit horse” that can do double jumps, boost jumps, and disappear or reappear instantly.

We also hear the player character being referred to as a tarnished. Names like the tarnished are nothing new for FromSoft’s games as for years we have been getting referred to as chosen hollow, ashen one, or good hunter, but it is slightly different in Elden Ring. Similar to Sekiro, the player character isn’t unwittingly stumbling into a terrible situation or even having one forced upon them. In Elden Ring, your character was banished, or tarnished, from the land and is now returning to take back what was once theirs.

Gameplay-wise, It looks like FromSoftware has continued to iterate on its games fantastic combat, keeping its solid base that fans of the company can enjoy, while adding in some new things to make it it feel new and different.

We see, for instance, stealth being used. Until now, we have only seen stealth be used in Sekiro, but this would allow for players to strategically pick of enemies one by one. Carefully clearing out large groups like the one we see pulling a cart in the trailer.
